The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released the official syllabus for the Lower Division Clerk (LDC) post under the 2025-26 recruitment cycle. The selection process consists of a Written Examination (CBT) followed by a Skill Test (Typing).
1. NCERT LDC Exam Pattern 2026
The written exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

2. Detailed Syllabus (Topic-Wise)
Section A: General Knowledge & Language (50 Marks)
1. General English & Comprehension:
- Grammar: Spotting Errors, Fill in the Blanks, Prepositions, Articles, Adjectives, Verbs.
- Vocabulary: Synonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/Detecting Misspelled words, Idioms & Phrases, One-word substitution.
- Sentence Structure: Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts.
- Comprehension: Reading passages and answering questions based on them.
2. General Awareness & Current Affairs:
- Current Affairs: National and International events (last 6-8 months), Sports, Awards, Summits.
- Static GK: History of India, Indian Geography, Indian Polity & Constitution, Economy.
- General Science: Everyday Science, Environmental Issues.
- NCERT/Education: Basic awareness about the education sector in India and NCERT’s role (beneficial to know).
Section B: General Intelligence & Skills (70 Marks)
3. Quantitative Aptitude (Maths):
- Number System: Computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals, Fractions.
- Arithmetic: Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Interest (Simple & Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount.
- Time & Work: Time and Distance, Time and Work.
- Algebra & Geometry: Basic Algebra, Elementary Surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle, Tangents.
- Mensuration: Surface area and volume of Cylinder, Cone, Sphere, etc.
- Data Interpretation: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram, Pie chart.
4. Logical Reasoning:
- Verbal: Analogies, Similarities and Differences, Space Visualization, Spatial Orientation, Problem Solving, Analysis, Judgment, Decision Making, Visual Memory.
- Non-Verbal: Discrimination, Observation, Relationship Concepts, Arithmetical Reasoning and Figural Classification, Arithmetic Number Series, Non-Verbal Series, Coding and Decoding.
5. Computer Knowledge:
- Basics: Computer Organization, RAM, ROM, File System, Input/Output Devices.
- Software: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) – High Importance.
- Internet: Email, Web Browsing, Computer Virus, Cyber Security basics.
- IT in Society: Application of Information Technology in Governance.
3. Skill Test (Qualifying Nature)
Candidates who qualify the Written Exam (CBT) will be called for the Skill Test. Marks obtained in the Skill Test are not counted for the final merit list; it is only qualifying.
- Type: Typing Test on Computer.
- Speed Requirement:
- English: 35 w.p.m. (Words Per Minute)
- Hindi: 30 w.p.m.
- Key Depression: Corresponds to approx. 10500 KDPH (English) / 9000 KDPH (Hindi) on an average of 5 key depressions for each word.
