Recruitment Cycle: KVS & NVS Common Recruitment (Advt. No. 01/2025)
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) is conducting the recruitment for Stenographer Grade II (and Grade I) under the new Common Recruitment Examination 2025-26 (in collaboration with NVS/CBSE). The selection process for the 2026 cycle has been revised.
Below is the detailed Tier-1 Syllabus and Exam Pattern for the upcoming exam.
1. KVS Stenographer Exam Pattern 2026 (Tier-1)
The Tier-1 exam is an Objective Type (OMR/CBT) test. Under the new cycle (Common Recruitment), the marking scheme has been updated in many notifications to 3 marks per question.

2. Detailed Syllabus (Tier-1)
A. General Reasoning (20 Qs)
- Verbal & Non-Verbal: Analogies, Similarities and Differences, Space Visualization, Spatial Orientation.
- Logic: Problem Solving, Analysis, Judgment, Decision Making, Visual Memory.
- Topics: Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Arithmetical Number Series, Non-Verbal Series, Syllogisms, Statement & Conclusion, Venn Diagrams, Seating Arrangement.
B. Numeric Ability / Quantitative Aptitude (20 Qs)
- Number System: Simplification, Decimals, Fractions, LCM & HCF.
- Arithmetic: Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Averages, Profit & Loss, Discount.
- Commercial Maths: Simple & Compound Interest, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Tables & Graphs, Mensuration.
C. Basic Computer Literacy (20 Qs)
- Fundamentals: Characteristics of Computers, Hardware & Software, Operating System.
- MS Office: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint (Shortcuts & Features).
- Internet: Web Browsers, E-mail, Search Engines, Computer Security (Virus, Antivirus).
- Other: Input/Output Devices, File System, RAM/ROM.
D. General Knowledge & Current Affairs (20 Qs)
- Current Affairs: National & International Events (last 6 months), Sports, Awards & Honors.
- Static GK: History (Ancient/Modern India), Geography, Indian Polity & Constitution, Economy.
- Science: Everyday Science, Scientific Research, Inventions & Discoveries.
E. Language Competency (English) (10 Qs)
- Grammar: Tenses, Articles, Prepositions, Subject-Verb Agreement, Conjunctions.
- Vocabulary: Synonyms, Antonyms, One Word Substitution, Idioms & Phrases.
- Comprehension: Reading Comprehension, Error Spotting, Sentence Rearrangement.
F. Language Competency (Hindi) (10 Qs)
- व्याकरण: संधि, समास, विलोम शब्द, पर्यायवाची शब्द.
- शब्दावली: मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियाँ, तत्सम एवं तद्भव, वाक्यांश के लिए एक शब्द.
- अशुद्धि शोधन: वाक्य सुधार, लिंग, वचन, कारक.
3. Skill Test (Stage 2)
Candidates who qualify the Tier-1 Written Exam will be called for the Shorthand & Typing Test. This is Qualifying in nature.

Important Note for Jan 2026 Exam
- Admit Card: Since the exam is on Jan 10/11, ensure you have downloaded your city intimation slip or admit card from the official KVS/CBSE portal (
kvsangathan.nic.inorcbse.gov.in). - Tier 2: Some notifications for the Combined Recruitment mention a “Tier 2” (Subject Knowledge Test). For Stenographers, the Skill Test typically serves as the second stage. However, please read the specific instructions on your Admit Card carefully to see if a descriptive paper is included for your specific post code.
